Miss Caron MillerMiss Caron Miller

Caron Matthews BA(Hons), MUKA

Miss Caron is the principal of The Benson Stage Academy.

For seventeen years she has taught all ages and levels of dance at The Benson Stage Academy. UKA qualified in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Cheer Dance, Street and Drama. She was Trained by the school’s founder Mamie Benson and the past two principles Barbra Benson-Smith and Jeanette Allport-Lilly. As a student teacher she added to her training at Westwood College achieving a distinction in performing arts. Going on to study the communication of arts specialising in contemporary dance at York graduating from Leeds with a BA (Hons).

Caron has choreographed for British Stage Productions The Whitby Area Musical Theatre Company.

Having performed from a young age as a dancer, vocalist and actor she realised her passion for theatre was within choreography and teaching. She believes that dancing should be accessible to everyone.

Linda Mowatt

Miss Linda needs no introduction to The Benson Stage Academy. She has been a teacher here for over thirty years.

She holds teaching qualifications with both the UKA and the BBO she also holds the Tap fellowship with the UKA.

Linda has the good fortune to teach both ends of membership groups. As she teaches our adults on a Monday evening.

inda then gets to enjoy her work with younger members in the preschool and reception classes on a Friday.

Miss Terri GillespieMiss Terri Gillespie

Terri Gillespie

Miss Terri has 20 years teaching experience, and has become a vital part of The Benson Stage Academy.

She started dancing as soon as she could walk, joining her parents and older sisters at ballroom and Latin lessons. Competing in ballroom and disco competitions from the age of four.

It was the opportunity to dance on the YMCA stage which completed her love for dance. This led her to take part in the YMCA summer shows and pantomimes alongside her Miss Caron.

Her teaching career started with a small class of under fives with a local dance school. Terri soon progressed this into three classes. For the past thirteen years she has taught disco as “Terri-Dancing Star” aged one to sixteen from a local school hall.

In her own words when she joined in 2017 “I feel proud and honoured to be asked to be part of the new Bensons team and look forward to teaching there soon”.

Terri teaches freestyle on a Saturday morning at the school.

Miss PippaMiss Pippa

Pippa Mundey

Miss Pippa is the Modern/Jazz teacher of The Benson Stage
Academy.
Pippa has been dancing and performing from a very young age
and progressed her passion into a career. She trained at York
College studying BTEC Musical Theatre and A Level Dance and
achieving A* A Level and a Triple Distinction Star qualification. She
continued onto Bodywork Dance Company and qualified with a
Level 6 Diploma in Musical Theatre, Specialising in Tap and Jazz
style of Dance.
Since graduating, Miss Pippa has been touring around the UK
within primary schools to provide a theatre experience for all
students and currently moved back to Scarborough and working
as a dancer and entertainer for Pure Entertainment located at
Flamingo Land.
Miss Pippa believes that every child should experience a little bit of
performing to help with their confidence, not just to discover a new
passion but to be able to interact with others at school and work
better.
